When did you become an artist?
All my life hung in Harrods at the age of 11, 5th out of thousands judged by Augustus John! I've always painted, and drew ever since a young age.
What inspires your art?
Life, the world, human condition. Different cultures.
Caroline's journey began at a young age when her talent was recognised with a prestigious display at Harrods at just 11 years old - ranking 5th among thousands, judged by the renowned Augustus John. Art has been a constant in her life ever since, a passion she's nurtured and explored over the years.
Her inspiration is drawn from life itself - the intricate fabric of our world and the diverse human condition. Cultures intertwine as her muse, shaping the essence of her art.
What gets you in the creative headspace?
I get in the zone and let myself be lead by my heart and soul , not so much head . I would find it hard to share a studio . I need to feel clear and focused.
In her creative process, Caroline surrenders to the flow, letting her heart and soul guide her rather than the mind. Clear focus and solitude play crucial roles, making the studio a space where clarity reigns supreme.
Can you tell us about the techniques or mediums you enjoy in your work?
I have no set way. I use many different mediums and strokes. But it all makes a difference. Each mark speaks to another mark.
Caroline's artistry knows no bounds in technique or medium—each stroke, mark, or medium chosen speaks a unique language, forming an integral part of her artistic expression.
Are there specific themes of messages you aim to convey through your art?
I have no boxes. I love the mix of cultures and I feel and hope my work reflects that. I hope it has soul. People often dance in front of my paintings. That makes me happy. I also work with dancers a lot. With all that’s happening in our crazy world I want my work to uplift and inspire.
How has your art evolved over time?
It changes all the time. Philosophy of the moment as I once explained it when asked.
How do you balance staying true to your artistic vision while also adapting to trends or changes in the art world?
I’m not going to be dictated to by trends and fashions. What is an artist if they can’t think for themselves and stick to their integrity?! Many. Many different ones.
Themes in her art transcend boxes, celebrating the amalgamation of cultures, hoping her work resonates with soul and uplifts spirits. It's not unusual to witness people dancing in front of her paintings—an ode to the joy her art spreads.
Adapting and evolving, her art mirrors the philosophy of the moment, constantly in flux, reflecting the ever-changing nature of life.
